1980

January 1 - Tuesday.  Just cooled it today.  Made chili.  I done my ironing.

January 3, 1980 - Thursday.  We had our club meeting.  I turned the secretary's job over to Elsie Craggs.

January 4, 1980 - Friday.  We went to Brainerd, done our shopping.  Took Mom to the foot doctor and I went to see D. B for sneezing and blowing.  

January 6, 1980 - Sunday.  Dena had us over for a fish fry.

January 7, 1980 - Monday.  We didn't go to Cedarbrook as we were all snowed in.  We used our Christmas gift from the kids.  Snowblower.

January 8, 1980 - Tuesday.  I had Oscar and Hazel, Susan and George over for supper and then we played 6 handed "500".  The women won.

January 9, 1980 - Wednesday.  Ray came over for dinner and him and Harland went fishing and didn't get anything.  Fishing has been lousy this year.

January 10, 1980 - Thursday.  Doris took Susan, Elsie and I to Cedarbrook for volunteer work.  Sewing.

January 12, 1980 - Saturday.  Ray, Bev and boys were over and we watched bowling and played dirty clubs.  Bev made supper and we played more cards.

January 14, 1980 - Monday.  The pot luck dinners started at Lonesome Pine.  Foresters went and we.

January 15, 1980 - Tuesday.  We went to Brainerd shopping, picked up Mom's slips and sheet blankets.

January 16, 1980 - Wednesday.  Done my ironing, put dye on my hair - 4 auburn 2 brown.  Put the new blankets and Mom's bed.

January 17, 1980 - Thursday.  Took Mom in to the doctor, check up, EKG.  She has pulmonary edema.

January 18, 1980 - Friday.  Mom still has shortness of breath.

January 19, 1980 - Saturday.  We took Mom into the hospital for her breathing problems.  Then we went to Spences for a neighborhood pot luck.

January 20, 1980 - Sunday.  I went to 10:30 mass and then we went over and told George and Louise.

January 21, 1980 - Monday.  I washed clothes today.  Went over by Pat's. I've lost 5 lbs.  We went to the pot luck at Lonesome Pine.  George and Susan picked us up.

January 22, 1980 - Tuesday.  We took Tuffy in to have him neutered.  Done our shopping and went up by Mom, but she didn't know we were there.

January 23, 1980 - Wednesday.  Went to Deerwood pot luck and went around to see Mom.  She was a little better today, but confused.  I told her she was in St. Joe's in Brainerd.  I wrote to Katie, Chick and Judy, Bill and Sharon tonite.  Tuffy is making himself right to home.  The doctor called last nite and said I couldn't take care of Mom the way she is and we should consider a nursing home.

January 24, 1980 - Thursday.  I cleaned Mom's bedroom real good and our bedroom.

January 25, 1980 - Friday.  We covered a foot stool for Dena today.  She just loves it and wants to order 3 for Christmas.

January 26, 1980 - Saturday.  Done the ironing.  Harland went fishing, got 1 small walleye and 1 small perch.  Went to 5PM mass and finished the afghan for Ray and Bev.  I made one for Roger and Delores' baby to be.

January 27, 1980 - Sunday.  Went up by the hospital.  Sent for Fry Pan Kleen.  Mom wasn't good at all.  She wouldn't wake up.  George and I went.  Harland has a cold.  Louise is waiting to go to Northwestern.

January 28, 1980 - Monday.  Went over by Pat.  I didn't lose anything, but didn't gain either.  I'm sewing on hot dish carriers.  We went to pot luck at Lonesome Pine.

January 29, 1980 - Tuesday.  Cleaned the house and baked an angel food cake for card club.

January 30, 1980 - Wednesday.  We picked George up and went up to the hospital and Mom was madder than a hatter.  Doctor said she should go into a nursing home and she said no, she'd get an apartment, somebody would take care of her.  We had card club tonite.  Oscar won first, Ann K. won 1st and Susan got booby.  Garrison is starting a Senior Citizen Club.

January 31, 1980 - Thursday.  We took her underclothing up to the hospital.  Mom cooled off a little.  Said she was sorry about yesterday.  We asked Mom if she wanted us to get a court order to admit her to Cedarbrook and she said, "No, I'll go in a nursing home.  They can help me get my strength back".

February 1, 1980 - Friday.  Went to the hospital and at 1PM the ambulance came and took Mom to Cedarbrook Manor.  We got her settled and visited awhile and then George and Louise came to the home and we left.

February 2, 1980 - Saturday.  I marked some of Mom's clothes and her walker and we took them over to Cedarbrook.  She wasn't very happy.  She wanted to know who's idea it was to put her there.  I told her it was the 2 doctors.  There was 16 of us that went to the Chicken Shack for supper.  We rode with Dena, Red and Deb.

February 3, 1980 - Sunday.  I put clean bedding on our bed, washed Mom's green blouse and her crocheted bed cover and went to 10:30 mass, came home and picked Harland up and we went down to the pancake breakfast at the Community Center the Lion's Club put on.  We helped with pancake breakfast at Aitkin, Susan, Evelyn and I.  We came home.  Harland went to bed and I done some crocheting and marked Mom's good clothes.  Louise's sister called tonite wondering how she was.

February 4, 1980 - Monday.  Today is Cedarbrook volunteer work and I drove.  Evelyn, Doris and I went.  Mom is quite bitter.

February 5, 1980 - Tuesday.  We served at Senior Citizens at Garrison and then we went to Brainerd to get eggs, but no eggs.

February 6, 1980 - Wednesday.  We went to a meeting at Garrison to prevent Port Mille Lacs from becoming a city and raise our taxes.

February 7, 1980 - Thursday.  Today is club.  8 men and 12 members present.  Cec called tonite.

February 8, 1980 - Friday.  I washed clothes today.

February 9, 1980 - Saturday.  Ray, Bev and boys came over this afternoon.  We watched bowling, played cards, ate supper and played more cards.

February 10, 1980 - Sunday.  Today is Sharon's birthday.  I went to 10:30 mass and Harland and I both napped this afternoon.

February 11, 1980 - Monday.  Evelyn picked me up and we went to Cedarbrook.  Mom was pretty good.  I brought her dirty clothes home and done them up.

February 12, 1980 - Tuesday.  We had a 9AM appointment to see the social worker in Brainerd.  Checked on income taxes.  We don't have to file.

February 13, 1980 - Wednesday.  Evelyn and I went over by Dorothy Boucher's and made Valentine favors.  We served at Deerwood.  Harland picked me up and we went and played cards.

February 14, 1980 - Thursday.  Bill is 31 years old today.  We went over by Betty today for her birthday.  She 's 57 years old.

February 15, 1980 - Friday.  Orville and Grace picked us up and we went to Aitkin for pot luck and George and Susan took us along to Crosby for card club at the Catholic school.

February 16, 1980 - Saturday.  Harland and I finished up the rest of the apples.  I took cups, glasses, TV trays, chairs, etc over to Dena's for our neighborhood pot luck.  It was real good.

February 17, 1980 - Sunday.  Fritz Post died on February 14th.  He was 49 years old.  I went to 10:30 mass.

February 18, 1980 - Monday.  Finished our hot dish holders.  5 in all.  We covered our foot stool and went to Fritz Post's funeral in Crosby.  Stopped by Cedarbrook to see Mom and she's still cold.

February 19, 1980 - Tuesday.  I washed clothes and put contact inside of Marie's foot stool.

February 20, 1980 - Ash Wednesday.  We went to Brainerd, done our shopping.  I didn't go to church tonite.

February 21, 1980 - Thursday.  We had George and Susan over for dinner and then we played cards.  The guys won 5-2 games.  Ray came after he was over to Cedarbrook to see Mom.  George and Susan left and we played sheepshead.  Then we ate supper and Ray left as he had to bowl at 9:30PM.

February 22, 1980 - Friday.  I painted in the bathroom, planted our pepper seeds.  We covered Marie's footstool.  I planted our apple blossom geranium and brought the amaryllis plant up.

February 25, 1980 - Monday.  Went over by Mom and picked up her dirty dresses and she actually smiled for us for the 1st time.

February 27, 1980 - Wednesday.  Ed and Dorothy Boucher, Evelyn Oleson, Vi and Eldon Hammel and us served at Deerwood.  We picked George and Susan up.  Then we all played cards.  At nite we had card club at George and Susan's.  Oscar and Hazel Miller picked us up.  I had booby.  Oscar 1st, Ann K. 1st for women.

February 28, 1980 - Thursday.  We were all invited  over to Elmer Anderson's for dinner and cards.  Elmer is losing his eye sight.

February 29, 1980 - Friday. We were going by Marie, but it was so cold.

March 1, 1980 - Saturday.  I started ground cherries out.

March 2, 1980 - Sunday.  I went to Little Flower Church.  Dena and us made supper together.  We had steak.

March 3, 1980 - Monday.  Susan took Grace,Evelyn and I to Cedarbrook for volunteer work.  At nite, they picked us up and we went to Lonesome Pine for pot luck.

March 4, 1980 - Tuesday.  I baked carrot bars to take to Senior Citizen at Garrison.  They had a real good turn out.  Cec called tonite and she hasn't heard from Ray.

March 5, 1980 - Wednesday.  We went to Brainerd shopping.  Harland's driver's license and car license were coming due.

March 6, 1980 - Thursday.  Today was club.  I baked 2 rhubarb cakes.  We went by Orville and Grace and played cards.

March 7, 1980 - Friday.  Evelyn picked me up and we went to Crosby for World Day of Prayer.  I fixed a fish fry for Evelyn, Dena, Red, Debbie and us.

March 8, 1980 - Saturday.  Today is Marty's birthday.  8 years old.  I washed clothes.

March 9, 1980 - Sunday.  Today Chick is 38 years old.  I took cake mix pouch, sugar, eggs and Crisco.  Dorothy will make Mom's birthday cake.

March 10, 1980 - Monday.  I took Mom's clothes over to Cedarbrook and done sewing till noon.  Came home, made Harland dinner and went over by Pat to weight in.  Ruth gained 3 lbs.  Pat 1 lb.  I 1lb.  Dena and Betty stayed the same.  We went by George and Susan for supper to play cards after.  Susan and I won 5 and the guys won 5.

March 11, 1980 - Tuesday.  I done my ironing and will go and vote and then get a permanent by Lois at 10AM.

March 12, 1980 - Wednesday.  Only 10 showed up for cards.  I done Mom's washing after supper.

March 13, 1980 - Thursday.  I started washing the kitchen and cleaned out the refrigerator and freezer.  I shoveled snow and Harland used the blower till it stopped.

March 14, 1980 - Friday.  I want to finish the kitchen today.

March 15, 1980 - Saturday.  We had our neighborhood pot luck over by Pat's.

March 16, 1980 - Sunday.  I went to 10:30 mass.  George and Susan picked us and Pearson's up and went to Headquarters Lodge for dinner.  Then George and Susan came back and we played cards and I fried a hamburger for supper and then they went home.

March 17, 1980 - Monday.  I cleaned the stove out real good from top to bottom.  I picked Evelyn, George and Susan up and we went to Cedarbrook for a smorgasbord.  Harland didn't go.  Orville and him cut those 2 trees down and he was tired.  I made Mom a couple undershirts from her one piece underwear that she wore here.  I have to get her some more snuggies.

March 18, 1980 - Tuesday.  I finished the oven this AM.  Went to Brainerd, picked up our eggs and shopped.  When we came home, Johnny and George came right after us.  He had a tiff at home and took off for Minnesota.

March 21, 1980 - Friday.  Ray and Bev got married in South Dakota.

March 22, 1980 - Saturday.  Cec, Ray and bev came over in the snow.

March 23, 1980 - Sunday.  We went to 10:30 mass.

March 24, 1980 - Monday.  I took Cec to Brainerd and we shopped.  I done the wash and cleaned house.

March 25, 1980 - Tuesday.  I done the ironing and stamped 6 more dish towels.  We went to the Chicken Shack.  Cec treated.

March 26, 1980 - Wednesday.  Cec, I and Har went to Deerwood pot luck and then played cards.  We cashed in 95 bonds in a certificate and brought the rest home to sign.  We went over to Knudsons for our regular card party.  I won 1st, Harland 1st and George F. bobby.

March 27, 1980 - Thursday.  We finished signing the rest of the bonds.  232 all tolled.  Put it in a 6-month certificate at 15.700% interest.

March 28, 1980 - Friday.  Ray and Scott picked Cec up and they went over by Ray and picked up the rest of his things.

March 29, 1980 - Saturday.  They'll take the stuff to Deer River today.  Harland and I covered another footstool for Dena's gift shop.  Grace called and the nurse told her Mom has a cracked pelvis.

March 30, 1980 - Palm Sunday.  I went to 10:30 mass, made dinner and went to the hospital.  Mom was better today.  Not quite so much pain.  We stopped around by George and Louise, told them about Mom.

March 31, 1980 - Monday.  Our weather is beautiful.

April 1, 1980 - Tuesday.  We went to Garrison Senior Citizen pot luck meeting and card playing.

April 2, 1980 - Wednesday.  Went to see Mom.  Harland got a hair cut and we went on to Brainerd, done our shopping.  I went to V.F.W. meeting and was accepted as a new member.

April 3, 1980 - Thursday.  Mom is 90 years old today.  Today is club.  I baked a cake for club and 5 loaves of zucchini bread to take to Wisconsin.

April 4, 1980 - Good Friday.  I roasted a turkey and made fried chicken and went to Jakes.  Got Marie 2 jars of beef base and 1 large jar of chicken base.

April 5, 1980 - Saturday.  Cleaned the house, washed my hair and made a date cake to take along and butterscotch chip cookies.  We went over to see Mom and then went to church at Deerwood at 7:30PM.

April 6, 1980 - Easter Sunday.  We left for Wisconsin at 7AM.  We had coffee and cake by Marie and left at 12:30 for Rhinelander and we visited with Wally and Dorrie till 4:30PM.  Left for Iron Ridge in the rain.

April 7, 1980 - Monday.  We stayed by Bill and Sharon all day as it stormed.  A tornado touched down at Beaver Dam.  It done a lot of damage.  We went into the basement by Bill's.

April 8, 1980 - Tuesday.  We visited Alfred and Dorothy and then went by Minnie for a visit.  Went out by Katie after they came from work at 2:30PM and stopped by Bernice, as we seen Ervin in the grocery store.

December 28, 1980 - Sunday.  We just cooled it and played cards.
